Restaurant Change-up
Acme F+B restaurant recast as casual Social Club serving flatbreads and brunch
The former Acme F+B has a new name and more relaxed concept. Now called Acme Social Club, this restaurant-bar north of Knox Street has also launched a new menu and hired a new bar manager.
According to a release, the new concept is more of a neighborhood restaurant and bar with 22 Texas beers on tap, two bars, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and "above average bar food." Way to set the bar low!
The new bar manager is Julie Campbell, a former co-owner of Minc in Dallas. Her drink lineup includes infusions such as maple-cinnamon sweet potato-infused bourbon, Hatch chile-infused tequila, and Skittle-infused vodka shot.
The menu has mac and cheese with cheddar, bacon jam and caramelized onions, plus a build-your-own flatbread with 14 topping choices. Salads sound pretty upscale: arugula with orange, strawberry, hearts of palm, feta cheese and citrus vinaigrette, as well as spring mix with tomato, avocado, cucumber, almond and pesto vinaigrette.
Burgers come in two flavors: the cowboy with white cheddar, grilled onion, pickled jalapeño and bacon, and the Acme burger with white cheddar and blue cheese dip.
Entrees include country-fried tenderloin with honey-jalapeño gravy, chicken and dumplings, and blackened mahi tacos. Desserts include homemade cookies with vanilla ice cream, as well as house-made sorbets in such flavors as strawberry basil, prickly pear, coconut and drunken cherry.
But it sounds like Acme Social Club is at its best at Sunday brunch. They do a house-made doughnut filled with jam and whipped cream; Grandma's pancakes topped with drunken raisin butter; a Benedict made with braised beef short rib; and a Bloody Mary bar with choice of infused vodka: pickle, pepperoncini, jalapeño, smoky Guajillo or bacon.
There are all sorts of happy hour specials and daily promotions such as half-price flatbreads on Tuesdays, half-price food on Wednesdays and wine discounts on Thursdays.
