We can always count on the Old Red Museum to bring Dallas history to life in ways that are innovative, exciting and informative. And that includes “Dream No Small Dreams: How Erik Jonsson Led Dallas From Tragedy to Triumph in the 1960s,” an exhibit that examines Jonsson’s visionary leadership in the 1960s.
Event co-chairs David Biegler, Diane Bumpas, Lynn McBee and Lindalyn Adams welcomed history buffs and notable Dallasites to a special opening reception of this new temporary exhibit, where guests had the opportunity to not only walk through the exhibit but also listen to a panel discussion from speakers connected with Jonsson:
- Pierce Allman, former journalist who covered Kennedy and the 1960s, including a chance meeting with Lee Harvey Oswald as he left the School Book Depository Building lobby
- Anita Martinez, first Hispanic person to serve as a Dallas City Council member (1969), who worked with Jonsson through his Goals for Dallas to improve West Dallas neighborhood and “Little Mexico” and founder of Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico
- Julian Read, former press secretary for Texas Gov. John Connelly
- Henry Tatum, former associate editor, Dallas Morning News
- George Schrader, Dallas city manager/assistant city manager while Jonsson was mayor
- Tony Briggle, former director of public relations and special events, Neiman Marcus
- Henry Tatum, former associate editor, Dallas Morning News
The exhibit, which opened last month to coincide with the city’s commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of JFK, runs through August 31, 2014.
