Paw Yeah
Pups get to play this year at cherished Richardson art festival
As fall traditions go, Huffhines Art Trails is one of Dallas' most beloved. The colorful festival hosts nearly 200 exhibiting artists and craftsmen during October 27-28, with visitors strolling the paved trails at Huffhines Park in Richardson for a weekend of shopping, entertainment, food, drinks, and fun.
New this year is something for our four-legged companions: Pawtoberfest. With dog-centric vendors, a pet look-alike contest, and a Halloween costume parade (with prizes for the best dressed), it's sure to make October 27 the "paw-ty" of the year.
And even though Halloween is in full swing, it's not too early to get a jump on holiday shopping. This show's varied collection is a shopper's delight, with contemporary and traditional crafts, handmade jewelry, and art that ranges from painting and pottery to glass and woodwork.
What else shouldn't you miss? Both the Front Porch Stage and the new Backyard Stage will be rocking all day with live music from local talent. Ryan Glenn, Gracie Wakefield, The Fool Hearts, and Cool Resolve are on the lineup, along with Darren Rozell, Jessica McVey, Taylor-Delatte, Davis & Rose, and Those Guys TX.
Of course, it wouldn't be a concert without snacks and ice-cold beer from the craft beer garden. Sample everything from hot dogs and tacos to roasted corn and Southern cuisine (plus a corn dog or two, naturally). Old-fashioned sodas hit the spot for kiddos, while adults can get a buzz from locally roasted coffee concocted in an Italian-made, three-wheeled 2012 Piaggio Ape 50 that was imported from the U.K. On Saturday, you can find homemade frozen yogurt made especially for your best friend from Pawtastic Snacks.
Throw in an adventurous scavenger hunt for the kids, and you've got a weekend that's not to be missed. Huffhines Art Trails is open from 10 am-6 pm on Saturday, and 10 am-5 pm on Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
