Season announcement
New Broadway Dallas season lines up Beetlejuice, Funny Girl, and another shot at Hamilton
Broadway Dallas and Broadway Across America have unveiled the full lineup of Broadway shows coming to Dallas for the 2023-2024 Germania Insurance Broadway Series presented by Broadway Dallas. It will feature eight productions, including four Dallas premieres and the return of audience favorites.
Among the newcomers, the headliner is Beetlejuice, based on Tim Burton’s cult classic 1988 film, running February 20-March 3, 2024 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. The musical comedy tells the story of Lydia Deetz, an unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and book by Scott Brown and Anthony King, it became a fan favorite on Broadway during its runs there, and was nominated for eight Tony Awards.
Returning for a third time to Dallas but showing for the first time at Winspear Opera House as part of Broadway Dallas' collaboration with the AT&T Performing Arts Center is the perennially popular Hamilton, running May 8-June 9, 2024. The now-iconic musical, featuring a cast of Latino and Black actors playing the Founding Fathers and Alexander Hamilton's family, previously played at the Music Hall at Fair Park on both April 2-May 5, 2019, and November 16-December 5, 2021.
Fans of jukebox musicals will get two different ones during the season. MJ, running November 21-December 3, 2023 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, is centered around the making of Michael Jackson's 1992 Dangerous World Tour. It goes beyond the singular moves and signature sound of the star, offering a rare look at the creative mind and collaborative spirit that catapulted the singer into legendary status.
Another legendary performer is showcased in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, running January 23-February 4, 2024 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. It chronicles the inspiring journey of Turner, a woman who broke barriers and became the Queen of Rock n’ Roll. The production features many of her much-loved songs and the showmanship for which she was known.
Girl from the North Country, running April 9-21, 2024 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, is not a jukebox musical, but it reimagines 20 legendary songs of Bob Dylan, including “Forever Young,” “All Along The Watchtower,” “Hurricane,” “Slow Train Coming,” and “Like A Rolling Stone,” to tell a story set in 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota, where the lives of a group of wayward travelers intersect in a guesthouse filled with music, life, and hope.
For the first time in 48 years, a national tour of Funny Girl(running August 6-18, 2024 at the Music Hall at Fair Park) will come to Dallas, this time as part of the classic musical's revival that had some drama on Broadway over the casting of the main role, Fanny Brice. Featuring one of the greatest musical scores of all time, including “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” and “People,” it's a bittersweet comedy about a girl from the Lower East Side of Manhattan who dreamed of a life on the stage.
The season is rounded out by two returning favorites, Les Miserablés (running December 20-31, 2023 at the Music Hall at Fair Park), making its record-tying eighth appearance in Dallas after last being seen in 2018; and Hairspray, running June 18-30, 2024 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, making its third appearance after last being seen in 2008.
