Heart This Race
What to know before this year's family-friendly race for heart health
Whatever your reason for running — health, community, or honoring someone special — it's once again time to lace up your sneakers and get ready for the Mansfield Run With Heart.
The beloved half marathon, 5K, and one-mile fun run is set for January 26 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. Now in its sixth year, the event honors those living with heart disease, their loved ones, and emergency responders, all while supporting cardiology services at the hospital.
What should you know before the big day? Here are a few tips.
Register early
From now through January 21, the cost for the chip-timed half marathon is $55 per person. After that, it increases to $65. If the 5K or one-mile fun run are more your speed, those entry fees remain the same right up until race day: $25 and $15, respectively.
Tag your team
Everything's more fun with a friend, so gather your group and register together. There will be awards for fastest emergency responders team, fastest school team, fastest open team, fastest corporate team, and largest teams, based on the number of registered participants across all events.
Aim for a medal
Running solo? The top overall masters in both the male and female groups plus the top three finishers in each age group — for both the 5K and the half marathon — all receive medals. And your hard work will be rewarded in the half marathon: everyone who crosses that finish line receives a participation medal.
Bring the fam
Little sprinters aren't left out of the fun either, with awards being given out for the 10-and-under age group. Strollers are also welcome during the race (just place yourself appropriately in the crowd), but please leave the four-legged family members at home.
Parking is free
Look for lots on the east side of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center and at Mary Orr Elementary.
