Dallas police ask public for help in unsolved Uptown sexual assault
Dallas police are asking Uptown residents to be on alert after reports of a violent sexual assault. According to police, a woman was walking her dog around 1 am January 28 in the State Thomas neighborhood of Uptown when the attack occurred.
The woman, who is in her 30s, was approached by two white males. One forced her to the ground and "cut off her clothes," then sexually assaulted her in the 2200 block of Clark Street. The woman's screaming and fighting caused the attackers to flee on foot, police say.
The victim described one of the suspects as being approximately 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
The January 28 sexual assault is the second such crime in the area surrounding Manchester State Thomas, a luxury Uptown apartment complex.
Another woman was sexually assaulted one block away, in the 2100 block of Clark Street, around 1 am on June 29. The area is well-lit and generally thought to be safe considering the high foot traffic coming from nearby shops and bars.
As it did following the first attack, Manchester State Thomas management wrote a letter to residents on January 29, stating that "this is an unfortunate reminder that crime can occur anywhere and at any time."
After instructing residents to keep their doors and windows locked, the letter went on to say, "As you can understand, no one can ensure the personal safety of yourself or that of your guests. We believe that by taking an active role in personal safety and security, you may be able to deter unnecessary issues that can arise."
Police have not released a suspect description from the June 29 assault, but senior corporal Sherri Jeffrey says the descriptions are "very different" and the two attacks do not appear to be related.
