Dallas billionaires raked in the dough last year, according to Forbes' 2015 list of billionaires, but a Walmart heiress in Mineral Wells is still kicking everyone's butts. Alice Walton is not only the 11th richest person in the world, but Forbes estimates she added more to her wealth — $5.1 billion — than the richest Dallasite is worth period.
Walton grew her fortune from $34.3 billion, according to Forbes' 2014 list, to $39.4 billion, making her the third-richest woman in the world.
As for Dallasites, oil and gas tycoon Trevor Rees-Jones leads the way at No. 381 with $4.3 billion. If it can be believed, that represents a down year for Rees-Jones, as last year Forbes had him at No. 328, with $4.5 billion, and he was reportedly worth as much as $5.4 billion last September.
Jerry Jones — the other Jones — had a better year as he jumped from No. 551 with $3 billion to No. 393 with $4.2 billion.
Speaking of sports owners, Texas Rangers co-owner Ray Davis nearly doubled up on last year's list, give or take a couple million, moving from No. 1092 with $1.6 billion to No. 577 with $3.1 billion. And Mavericks owner Mark Cuban managed to find $400 million in his couch cushions as his wealth grew from $2.6 billion to $3 billion — good for the No. 603 spot.
Former presidential candidate Ross Perot Sr. fell from No. 446 to No. 462 despite growing his wealth from $3.5 billion to $3.7. His son, Ross Perot Jr. (duh), dropped from No. 988 to No. 1105. He was worth $1.8 billion both this year and last and is surely the shame of his family for such a tumble.
Overall, Bill Gates is still richer than all of you peasants with $79.2 billion. There were a record 1,826 billionaires on Forbes' list, including 290 newcomers, the youngest of which is Evan Spiegel, a 24-year-old developer who created Snapchat with a fraternity brother at Stanford.
Jerry Jones has a lot to smile about: $4.2 billion.
