Emergency Alert
Fire breaks out in downtown Dallas office building
A three-alarm fire erupted around noon in a downtown Dallas office building at the corner of Pacific Avenue and Griffin Street. Flames engulfed a bank of windows at what appeared to be the sixth floor of a 10-story building.
The building is next to the Crowne Plaza hotel. Several fire trucks had responded to the scene by 12:05 pm, and black clouds of smoke could be seen from several blocks away. The fire appeared to be contained to one floor.
DART suspended downtown rail service around noon to allow fire fighters better access to the building, and service between Baylor University Medical Center, Deep Ellum, Victory, Union and Cityplace/Uptown stations remained stopped at 12:30 pm. DART organized buses to transport passengers between the affected stations during the afternoon.
Around 12:15 pm, fire fighters broke out the building's windows while standing atop an adjacent parking garage on Pacific Avenue. As of 12:20 pm, the fire was largely contained and fire fighters began entering the building.
