    Neighborhood Spotlight

Dave Perry-Miller & Associates present top hot spots in downtown Dallas

Award-winning performance venues, globally recognized museums, urban parks, resort-style hotels — these are just some of the experiences you’ll find in downtown Dallas. The downtown area is one of the nation’s most recognized and visited areas.

Dave Perry-Miller & Associates presents a sampling of popular cultural and recreation spots for residents and visitors.

    Dallas Arts District
The Dallas Arts District is the largest contiguous arts district in the nation. Here you’ll find globally lauded museums such as the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, Perot Museum of Nature and Science and Dallas Museum of Art.

The Perot Museum, an architectural wonder that opened in December 2012, is the newcomer to the group. This kid-friendly museum features myriad exhibit halls that range from studying the human body to energy sources.

The Arts District is also home to performance venues such as the AT&T Performing Arts Center, a 10-acre campus that features the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, Annette Strauss Square, and Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park. Shows and performances range from Broadway musicals to opera.

Within the Arts District, you’ll also find Klyde Warren Park, a 5.2-acre deck park built over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. KWP boasts a children’s park and dog park; open space for lectures, yoga and performances; entertainment pavilions; and dining such as Savor, Relish and food trucks.

Check out the Dallas Arts District on the first Saturday of each month. The day is dedicated to family fun, and admission is free.

    The Joule
You have an expansive range of hotels when you visit downtown Dallas, and one of our favorites is The Joule. The hotel features an art gallery, glass-fronted pool, unique retail such as TenOverSix and the Taschen library, dining, and more. The Joule is more than a hotel; it’s really an experience. Its location in the heart of downtown means you can easily walk to other hot spots.

    Dining
You probably already know that Dallas is a mecca for dining establishments, from exotic and fine dining to casual fare. There are so many epicurean choices that we recommend you begin your search here to find openings, reviews and critical favorites.

Where do you go when you explore downtown Dallas? Tell us about your favorite experiences in the comment box below. Also, if you’re interested in volunteering your time this summer, visit Voly in the Park for fun ways you can help to make a difference.

9 Walmart stores across Dallas-Fort Worth to get complete makeovers

Mega-retailer Walmart is executing a new round of store remodels at 72 locations across Texas — including nine in Dallas-Fort Worth.

It's part of an ongoing effort to modernize the in-store and digital shopping experience which includes upgrading layouts, technology, and services to offer faster, more convenient shopping and delivery in as little as an hour.

Expanded services include free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members, including on GLP-1s, and an app which customers can use to navigate through the stores, book services at Walmart’s Auto Care Center, and more.

Elevated brands and products will be added from the likes of De’Longhi, Oura, Jessica Simpson, and Lemme, with interactive displays that make it easier to picture how products will look in your home.

Pharmacy departments will get big overhauls, with vision centers designed for improved privacy and convenience, offering brands like Nike, Calvin Klein, and DKNY, along with services like free cleanings and eyeglasses adjustments.

Nationally, Walmart is planning remodels at more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year — in parallel with a similar program it launched in 2025.

"We’re proud to work and serve customers across Texas, and our continued investment reflects how deeply we believe in this state and its communities," said Walmart Southwest Business Unit Senior VP Elise Vasquez-Warner in a statement.

The nine Dallas-Fort Worth stores with proposed complete remodels in 2026 are:

    • Allen Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1520 E. Exchange Pkwy.
    • Denton (NW) Walmart Supercenter, 2750 W. University Dr.
    • Fort Worth Walmart Supercenter, 3851 Airport Freeway
    • Garland Walmart Supercenter, 555 W Interstate 30
    • Garland Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3959 Broadway Blvd.
    • McKinney Walmart Neighborhood Market, 3400 Virginia Pkwy.
    • Plano Walmart Supercenter, 8801 Ohio Dr.
    • Rockwall Walmart Supercenter, 782 E Interstate 30
    • Sachse Walmart Neighborhood Market, 6750 Murphy Rd.
The remodel list also includes six stores in Houston proper, six stores in San Antonio, and two in the Austin area.
