Get Olympic Fever
Rescheduled Road to Sochi Tour pumps up Dallas for Winter Olympics
In what was arguably the most ironic casualty of the December ice storm in Dallas, the Road to Sochi Tour at Klyde Warren Park had to be rescheduled due to inclement weather, you know the kind that winter sports thrive on.
But with the Sochi Winter Olympics set to open on February 7, the rescheduled tour dates of February 1 and 2 couldn't have better timing. Visitors will be able to participate in 10 different winter sport-related activities to get the feel of being an Olympian.
Among the activities are street luge, where you'll get on a luge sled on wheels and steer it down a ramp; a hockey slap shot that tests speed and accuracy; sliding a curling stone down a strip of actual ice; and roller cross country skis, which are used by athletes during warmer months to keep up their training.
Other activities, include a head-to-head video biathlon course, photo ops in a bobsled or as a ski jumper, a showcase of figure skating memorabilia, snowboarding via a Nintendo Wii and practicing speedskating skills on slideboards.
Several former Olympians will be on hand to sign autographs, including speedskater Chad Hedrick, Dallas Stars legend Mike Modano and Allen's own Carly Patterson, who, yes, is a gymnast, but we'll take our local Olympic heroes where we can get them.
The Road to Sochi Tour will be open from 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday, February 1 and from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, February 2.
