1. Trader Joe's Speculoos cookie butter shortage plagues nation. The addictive, spicy cookie butter has been out of stock at Trader Joe's across the country for more than a month, and there's no immediate sign of relief. An employee at the Trader Joe's in Plano says the next shipment isn't due until mid-May.
2. Where to eat in Dallas right now: 10 hot restaurants for May. In her monthly feature, senior editor Teresa Gubbins diplomatically gives her stamp approval in alphabetic order to a smorgasbord of eateries. Because variety is the spice of life, staples such as Aunt Stella's Sno-Cones are sandwiched in between newcomers Mot Hai Ba and Pepe's Ranch.
3. Dallas Craigslist hookup turns homicidal. Police believe that Christopher Howard Beachum, 27, arranged a date with Gerald Canepa, 68, through Craigslist on March 15. Three days later, Canepa was found strangled to death in his South Oak Cliff home. Beachum, who was identified by his phone records and Craigslist account, is still at large.
4. Defendant in Ryan Romo defamation case countersues for alleged rape. The legal battle between Romo and a 16-year-old girl who accused him of rape in October 2012 has gotten even more complicated. The girl, who hired high-profile Dallas attorney Charla Aldous, filed a civil lawsuit against Romo for physical and mental pain as a result of sexual assault.
5. Guns N' Roses to perform intimate concert at House of Blues. Filed under the "how far they've fallen" department, Guns N' Roses will come to Dallas May 29 for a concert at the House of Blues. Tickets will run from $135 (for general admission) to $155 for the balcony to $175 for "platinum," which we hope means you'll get your hair braided by frontman Axl Rose's tour stylist.
