Dallas radio station 102.9 FM Now installs hunky new afternoon guy
Radio station 102.9 Now, dubbed "music variety for Dallas-Fort Worth," is installing a new guy for the afternoon drive programming: local on-air personality Kannon. The one-named DJ will broadcast weekdays from 2-7 pm beginning June 1. He'll replace Ryan Seacrest's "On Air With Ryan Seacrest."
Program director Jay Shannon says in a release that they're pleased to add a "well-known local personality" to the afternoon drive slot.
"Kannon is a familiar name that has been on the radio in Dallas-Fort Worth for several years, and he understands how to connect with listeners as well as what it takes to be successful in this market," Shannon says. Ryan Seacrest so doesn't care about us.
Kannon, who actually does have a first name (Mike), began his career in radio at the age of 15 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He most recently served as morning co-host at KVIL. That slot is currently filled by Nathan Fast.
Kannon, whose twitter is the catchy "Kannon with a K," previously served as morning show host at KLIF and mix show DJ in Boston for the nationally syndicated program, "Open House Party." He has worked in markets such as Raleigh, Portland, Atlanta, and Philadelphia.
There's also something else he has that many radio personalities do not, which is a pleasing countenance — belying the common expression "he has a face for radio." Is that mean? They wouldn't say it if it weren't true.
Kannon calls 102.9 Now "a powerhouse" in DFW. "I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the community's drive home," he says.
Kannon's afternoon show will be "interactive" and will discuss the latest entertainment news and trends in pop culture. Listeners can expect to hear a variety of music from artists including Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, The Chainsmokers, and more.
102.9 Now is owned by iHeartMedia Dallas, which also owns and operates KHKS-FM, KDMX-FM, KDGE-FM, KEGL-FM, KZPS-FM, and KFXR-AM.
