Thursday, August 4
Theatre Three presents The Novelist
The latest from Theatre Three is The Novelist, a reworking of Theresa Rebeck’s earlier play The Butterfly Collection. The play is an ensemble dramedy about a cruelly destructive and fiercely protective family of artists, led by Paul, a Nobel-winning novelist suffering from writer's block. The production runs through August 28.
Neko Case, K.D. Lang, and Laura Veirs in concert
The dynamic trio of women singer/songwriters Neko Case, K.D. Lang, and Laura Veirs comes to Dallas to showcase their new collaborative album, Case/Lang/Veirs. The album is a true collaboration, as the women wrote all 14 songs and shared lead vocals equally. The trio plays at Winspear Opera House.
Friday, August 5
Dixie Chicks in concert with Vintage Trouble and Smooth Hound Smith
It's been 10 years since the Dixie Chicks were last heard from in any meaningful way, as the three band members — Natalie Maines, Emily Robison, and Marty Maguire — decided to focus on their families and side projects. It's unclear if this tour, which stops at Gexa Energy Pavilion, is a type of comeback or one final fling with their fans, but we'll take it either way.
Culture Club in concert
Speaking of bands who haven't been heard from in a while, Boy George and Culture Club released their last album 17 years ago. But everything old is new again, and the band has put aside any differences for a worldwide tour in support of their forthcoming new album, Tribes. Fans can hear their new and classic songs at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie.
Saturday, August 6
House of Blues presents Local Brews Local Grooves
Local Brews Local Grooves is yet another craft beer and music festival, this one featuring 16 North Texas breweries, 18 bands on four stages, and delectable food pairings at House of Blues Dallas. Musical acts include, among others, Buffalo Ruckus, Charlie Shafter, Crystal Yates, Dead Flowers, Nicholas Altobelli, Northern National, Oil Boom, Parallel Play, Salim Nourallah, and Sister.
311 and Sublime with Rome in concert with Dirty Heads, Matisyahu, and Tribal Seeds
311 and Sublime with Rome co-headline this concert at Gexa Energy Pavilion that also features Dirty Heads, Matisyahu, and Tribal Seeds. 311's most recent album was 2014's Stereolithic, while Sublime with Rome is touring in support of their 2015 album, Sirens.
Maks and Val Live on Tour: Our Way
Brothers Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy are bringing to life the show they have dreamed about since childhood, combining an honest and unfiltered narrative of their life story with the world-class dancing, creativity, and passion for which they are known. The show at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie will surprise and delight with timeless elegance and steamy seduction.
Sunday, August 7
Alamo Drafthouse presents Star Wars Marathon
It’s been 39 years since audiences first saw the original Star Wars, but even after all those years, the Force is still strong with us all, especially with the Force awakening again last year. Alamo Drafthouse celebrates our love for the movie trilogy with rare digital screenings of the special edition versions of A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi at Majestic Theatre.
The Dixie Chicks play at Gexa Energy Pavilion on August 5.
