Uptown Party
Dallas revelers form epic Uptown block party on New Year’s Eve
With no Big D NYE happening this year, Dallas revelers may be struggling to find the best New Year's Eve parties in town. Luckily, a new social network app, Nawkr, is giving Dallasites a glimpse of the fun stuff happening all around them.
Currently available for iPhones, Nawkr is designed to connect people within a selected radius. Users can choose how they want to connect via icons that indicate business, academics, or in the case of New Year's Eve, just plain fun.
To help get the word out about the app, which will have a beta launch in January 2016, Nawkr is holding the "first-ever New Year's Eve social networked block party." With help from partners like Katy Trail Ice House, Uber, Nickel&Rye, 6th Street, Blackfriar Pub, Idle Rich Pub, Bowen House, Kung Fu Saloon, and Fat Rabbit, Nawkr hopes to bring together partiers in the Uptown area for the holiday block party.
Angel Armendariz, co-founder of Nawkr, explains it this way: "Basically, if you’re going out in Uptown for New Year's Eve you download the app ... which allows you to 'explore' or see the profiles of all the other users within a set radius. Users can post pictures and comments, and see in real time what is happening all around the area. This way you party where you are, and simultaneously party with the rest of Uptown."
The block party announcement also includes the hashtag #MakeDallasGreatAgain, a sentiment we can get behind. For fans of the app, Nawkr will hold its official launch party at The Wild Detectives in Bishop Arts District at a to-be-determined date in January.
