Dallas show by American Idol finalist Jack Blocker will be filmed for TV
If attending a show that's being filmed for TV is your dream, then now's your chance: Jack Blocker, a contestant on TV show American Idol, will be performing at Strauss Square in Dallas' Arts District on May 14 — an appearance that is being filmed for the series' finale, to air on May 19.
Blocker, a 25-year-old graphic designer from Richardson who has been on the show since February, was just selected on May 12 as one of the show's three finalists. The winner will be chosen on the episode airing on May 19 at 7 pm.
Blocker went to Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, then the University of Arkansas, and currently resides in Nashville.
He's been called "the poster child for second chances" after making a comeback from his initial audition - one that was panned by judge Katy Perry. He managed to squeak through and has since won over the judges and fans.
On the May 12 show, he performed two songs from widely different genres — Brad Paisley's "Nobody’s Fool,” and a cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity" — earning him praise for his impressive range.
Judge Luke Bryan said: “Hey, Fred Astaire. Fred don’t care. You got that swagger man. It is just fun to see you free with all that. That was not what we thought you were early in the competition but seeing you do that: Who is this guy? Great job.”
Fans applauded him for having the most versatile voice out of all the contestants, as well as a strong stage presence. Among the five semi-finalists, he earned the second-highest score.
The show at Strauss Square is at 8 pm. Tickets are $10, and can be ordered on the ATTPAC website. There's a limit of 6 tickets per customer. Attendees waive all rights to any claims for payment or royalties.
