Farewell is like the end
Immersive Disney Animation Experience suddenly cancels run in Dallas
Local Disney fans and fans of all things immersive who were looking forward to stepping into the "Immersive Disney Animation Experience" in Dallas are out of luck.
Lighthouse Immersive Studios, the production company behind the show, confirmed that the Dallas run - which started in April and was set to run until Labor Day - has been canceled as of Wednesday, June 21.
A statement on the event's website reads, "Lighthouse Immersive regrets to announce that our production of 'Immersive Disney Animation' in Dallas has closed. All ticketholders will receive a full refund. We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience."
A spokesman for the event added, "Our top priority now it to take care of guests, so we are in active communication with them and issuing refunds." No further details were given.
A Houston run that was scheduled to start July 1 also has been called off. A version in San Antonio is is still on as of June 21.
The new immersive experience, at Lighthouse ArtSpace Dallas, offered guests the opportunity to belt out their own version of "Let It Go," singing like Elsa in Frozen, step into Maribel's casita from Encanto, or be at Pride Rock when Rafiki presents Simba.
Sweeping through Disney animation's centennial of movies, the projection experience brought exhibit goers into an array of Disney classics, from Peter Pan and Pinocchio to the studio's recent hits. The projection show's responsive floor design moved with the audience, creating a 360-degree immersion that made guests feel they are inside the art.
A series of sensory-friendly viewings were to begin in Dallas on Saturday, June 24.
Ticketholders are encouraged to check the official event site for any additional information.
This is the second abrupt entertainment cancellation of the week; a run of His Story, a Jesus-themed musical at Grandscape at The Colony, ended on Sunday, June 18.
