Editor's note: Another week has come and gone, and there's a lot we all probably missed. But we're looking out for you, kid. Here are the most popular stories from this past week:
1. Neiman Marcus Downtown gets totally tubular for its first-ever adult holiday window crawl. There are not many reasons we’d go to Neiman Marcus Downtown and not shop. But this year marks the very first time the holiday window crawl is open to adults — so we’ve changed our thinking.
2. Austin's ultra-serious Houndstooth Coffee to bring baristas and beer to East Dallas. Dallas’ coffee scene keeps getting bigger, and now it'll have a new taste. Houndstooth Coffee, the ultra-cool minimalist coffee shop/bar in Austin, will open a branch in East Dallas, at the corner of Skillman Avenue and Oram Street, in early 2013.
3. Chef Jeffery Hobbs flies the coop at Sissy's and lands at Consilient as executive chef of American F+B. Senior editor Teresa Gubbins had the scoop on Hobbs' move. The news resolved the intrigue sparked in September when Hobbs rather suddenly left his post at Sissy's, the Southern restaurant he helped open with Lisa Garza last spring.
4. TEDxSMU speaker Jeremy Gregg on why there is more talent in prison than business school. Gregg is the chief development officer of the Prison Entrepreneurship Program and the open audition winner for TEDxSMU on December 1. “Many people in jail are great entrepreneurs; they just had an illegal product,” Gregg explains. “We need to harness their skills for legal businesses.”
5. Babb Bros BBQ & Blues opens its homey doors for a meat-lovers feast with friends and family. November 29 marked the opening of Babb Bros BBQ & Blues, a cafeteria-style eatery at Trinity Groves. As associate editor Rachael Abrams reported, 200 people got a sneak peek of the brothers' down-home cuisine before the grand opening.
