Erykah Badu mounts reflective tour for fall with stop in Dallas area

Singer/songwriter Erykah Badu will hit the road this fall, with a 12-city tour that celebrates the 25th anniversary of her second studio album. Called "The Return of Automatic Slim Tour: eryKah Badu Mama's Gun '25," the tour will stop at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving on December 10.

Released in 2000, Mama's Gun has a blend of neo-soul, hip-hop, and jazz elements. Reimagined arrangements of hit songs like "Bag Lady," "Didn't Cha Know?," and ""Cleva" will be played on the tour, alongside selections from Badu's catalog.

Irving will be final stop on the 16-date tour, taking place from October-December. Several cities will get to see Badu on back-to-back nights, including Houston on November 28 and 29.

Badu's nearly 30-year career has included five albums, four of which made the top 5 on the Billboard 200. A sixth album, the collaborative Abi & Alan with The Alchemist, will be released soon, with a supporting tour scheduled for August, including a stop in Austin on August 24.

According to a release, this fall anniversary tour "represents both a celebration of her past achievements and a testament to the enduring power of her artistry."

Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Friday, August 1 at 10 AM CT at baduworldmarket.com.

Blue October brings 'Foiled' 20th anniversary tour to Irving for 2 shows

Blue October are celebrating the 20th anniversary of Foiled this fall.

Houston-born band Blue October is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic album Foiled with a lengthy North American tour including two nights at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, on November 27 and 28.

Beginning in Abilene on October 20, the tour will make several stops throughout Texas, including one in San Antonio on December 12, one at Bass Concert Hall in Austin on Friday December 11, and two closing nights in their hometown, Houston, on December 18 and 19. The band will play Foiled in its entirety on all dates.

Known for hits such as “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” Foiled reached the top 10 on the Billboard Rock Chart and established lead singer Justin Furstenfeld as one of his generation’s most distinctive voices. The band is also known for its theatrical live shows.

Along with the tour, Blue October will release a special vinyl reissue of the album on May 29.

“So now here we are,” Furstenfeld said in a statement. “Let’s show and remind everyone just how special and eclectic that album was. And, most importantly, how much we wore our heart on our sleeve for it.”

At Burnt Bean Co. in Seguin, rated by Texas Monthly as the state's best barbecue joint, the Sunday brunch menu includes the Blue October — sliced brisket topped with jalapeño cream cheese, strawberry jam, and a fried egg that's served on a croissant.
