Wearing flip-flops in January might seem uncouth, but this is Texas, and our winters are just unstable enough that beach-longing patio-goers might be able to enjoy a day or two in a pair from Hari Mari’s newest line, which debuts exclusively at Nordstrom.com early next month.
The Dallas-based flip-flop company has partnered with Nordstrom to introduce the collection, called The Dunes, which retails for $45 per pair. Husband-and-wife owners Jeremy and Lila Stewart developed The Dunes to channel classic ’70s and ’80s beachwear, with vintage-style colors of heather green, rusted orange and royal blue for men, and teal, black, pink and light gray for women.
These flops are created solely from water-resistant rubber and foam, so although they may not be as fancy as Hari Mari’s other lines, like hemp-heavy Scouts ($60) or leather-covered Lakes ($80), the Dunes are designed to be the most lake- and beach-friendly. In fact, siping on the foot bed helps channel water away from your feet to increase grip and traction, so you don’t have to worry about sliding around in your flops.
And, as any Hari Mari owner already knows, the Dunes’ defining feature is the patent-pending memory foam-injected toe post, which lessens that break-in time.
Hari Mari built its rep not only on quality, fashion-forward flip-flops, but also on its sustainability and philanthropic efforts, which have been a part of the company’s DNA since it launched in 2012. Its flops are constructed using high-grade recyclable rubber and foam, and to keep used pairs out of the landfills, the company allows customers to send in their used flip-flops — any brand — for repurposing and recycling. In return, customers get 15 percent off a new pair of Hari Maris.
In addition, Hari Mari has key partnerships with organizations like Soles4Souls, which helps get sandals to people in need of footwear around the world. And its Flops Fighting Cancer initiative, in partnership with Cook Children’s and Dell Children’s Medical Center, gives $3 for every pair sold (including Dunes) to help families in need pay for pediatric cancer treatments, medicines and hospital costs.
The new Dunes line will be available at the company’s more than 300 national vendors, including the 63 in Texas, in early spring. Locally Hari Mari flip-flops are sold at TenOverSix, St. Bernard Sports, Whole Earth Provision Co. and Luke’s Locker.
The Dunes will be available nationwide in more than 300 stores beginning in early spring 2015.
