Michael Kors helps fight world hunger with star-studded ad campaign and signature watches
Having conquered the fashion world, Michael Kors is now setting his sights on efforts to end world hunger. The designer, who has become a billionaire — or close to it — since his company went public in 2011, has announced a long-term partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme, which is dedicated to helping solve the international hunger crisis.
In the PSA, Bette Midler, Seth Meyers and Karolina Kurkova are among the stars who mention a sobering statistic: One in eight people go to bed hungry every night.
Kors enlisted celebrity friends to appear with him in a public service announcement highlighting the "the world's most solvable problem." In the PSA, released this past week, Bette Midler, Seth Meyers and Karolina Kurkova are among the stars who offer a sobering statistic: One in eight people around the world go to bed hungry every night.
In March, Kors will launch two unisex watch styles for its “WATCH HUNGER STOP” campaign. The watches come in two sizes — the smaller one is $295, and the larger one sells for $325. For each watch sold, 100 children will be fed by the World Food Programme.
There is also a text-to-donate initiative: Text MKHUNGER to 50555 to donate $5 to the World Food Programme.
“Over the years, I’ve had the great fortune of traveling the world and experiencing new cultures and people,” Kors said in a statement. “And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that millions of people all over the world are struggling to feed themselves, and their families, every day. I want to lend my voice and my efforts to this international cause.”
