Dallas lifestyle blogger and girl about town Krystal Schlegel has taste even her childhood idol Carolyne Roehm would admire. If you follow her blog, or if you are one of her 6,700-plus Instagram followers, then you know that Schlegel doesn’t just like pretty things; she is an arbiter of style.
Now Schlegel is bringing her impeccable taste and love for ranunculus to a new floral business, Flowers by Krystal — a venture that blossomed from her social media prowess.
“I like to add a different element to every piece,” Schlegel says. “My style is whimsical with a bit of surprise.”
“I went to the Catherine Muller Flower School in Paris back in 2010,” she says. “I arranged flowers as a hobby, helping friends and family for various events.”
When she began Instagramming photos of her floral arrangements — and people began to inquire — Schlegel decided to turn her pastime into a career.
“It’s been fun to see how the business has grown through social media,” she says.
Schlegel currently takes order by email or phone. Though she can work with a desired color scheme, she usually begins with a price range and occasion. With the vision in her mind, Schlegel heads to a local wholesale market and picks out seasonal flowers to fulfill her client’s desires.
“If I’m designing an arrangement for an event, I try to match it the tablescape,” Schlegel says. “I like to add a different element to every piece — my style is whimsical with a bit of surprise.”
She currently creates mini-arrangements and big bouquets, all out of her apartment. In the future, this budding florist hopes to have her own shop here in Dallas.
