Young, hip Crate & Barrel spinoff opens in Dallas' Knox District

A spinoff of Crate & Barrel has opened its first location in Dallas. Called CB2, the store opened in mid-September in the Knox District, specifically at 4510 McKinney Ave., in what was formerly the Forty Five Ten boutique.
This is the first CB2 in Dallas but the second in Texas; the chain opened a location in Austin in 2017. It's right down the street from the Knox location of Crate & Barrel.
Founded in 1999, CB2 specializes in minimalist furniture, rugs, and lighting. A statement says that CB2 is aimed at younger, urban customers seeking stylish, modern pieces on a budget.
It has 19 locations in all the major cities including Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., plus two cities in Canada, Toronto and Vancouver.
Categories include decor, mirrors, curtains, lighting, pillows, rugs, bedding & bath, kitchen & dining, and outdoor items such as patio furniture.
There are coffee tables, dining sets, plush beds, storage & media units, and office furniture.
While they position themselves as cheaper, they're not Ikea level (which seems to be their inspiration). A handsome but basic bleached oak desk is $899, and couches range from $1,000 to $3,000.
But like its older sibling, CB2 has good bargain glassware with champagne glasses for $6.95.
Its current line of holiday merchandise is a good display of the aesthetic, with nearly all of the wreaths, ornaments, tablescapes, and other trinkets falling into a pale winter palette of white, clear Lucite, silver, gray, and gold.
An associate at the Dallas store says that each store is different depending on location. "This space is unique, because the building was built in 1926," he says.
