Dallas Drops the Mic
Local startups party at SXSW to confirm Dallas' status as tech hotbed
If you’ve noticed a dearth of Dallas startup activity of late, it’s probably because many of our city’s entrepreneurs have been fraternizing in Austin during SXSW. To showcase the energy and excitement of our local startup scene, they threw a little happy hour last week at Old School Bar & Grill dubbed “Dallas Drops the Mic.”
CultureMap joined the party, where companies such as Launch DFW, RevTech, Rise, Softlayer, Tech Wildcatters, Startup Lawyer and The DEC were networking with friends, new and old — and proving that Austin isn’t the only tech hotbed in Texas.
As for the name, DEC CEO and co-founder Trey Bowles explains: “You always hear about dropping the mic when they do something great and they stand out. We feel like that’s what Dallas startups do.”
