Creekside Living
Buyers are bound to fight over this East Dallas home if only for the view
With a few exceptions, Dallas doesn’t have much in the way of homes with a view. Which is why this creek-side property, which hits MLS on June 12, surely will go quick.
Located at 4224 Briar Creek Ln., just off Mockingbird Lane east of Abrams Road, the 1969 house takes full advantage of its location. It’s easy to imagine having a glass of wine with girlfriends on the expansive back deck that overlooks the creek, or taking a walk — kids and dog in tow — on the path along the water.
I say easy to imagine because I may have shared a glass of wine or two on the deck with the owner, Phyllis Cole McKnight, the former chief innovation officer for CultureMap. She hosted myriad happy hours and holiday parties for CultureMappers and our former colleagues from D Magazine in that house, creating lasting memories and life-long friendships.
Phyllis also raised her triplets in that house, evidence that it’s as much a family home as it is an entertainer’s. More evidence: a giant playroom off the kitchen and living room, where those kids had free rein. Not a bad way to grow up.
Listed with Christy Berry of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s for $842,000, the home has 3,550 square feet, four bedrooms and four baths. An architect built it to live in himself, and it feels a bit like a lodge, with wooden beams, bountiful built-ins in a library-like area off the living room and two stone fireplaces.
One of those fireplaces is in the master bedroom, which also has creek views. The master bathroom has been totally updated with a huge, marble-topped vanity; two vessel sinks with contemporary faucets; and a walk-in shower with rainhead fixture.
Sure, the kitchen could use some updates, but the location, not the kitchen, is what will win over buyers. Or the chance to create their own memories with family and friends in that cool house by the creek.
