Oh, my. Claire Dewar at Briggs Freeman has landed herself a hot one! On Tuesday, she listed the Preston Hollow family home of Dallas art collectors and philanthropists Cindy and Howard Rachofsky.
I have to admit my heart skipped a beat when I first saw the news. At first I thought they were selling the Rachofsky House over at 8605 Preston Rd., and it was just too much for me to take. But, no, like most folks of my age group, it turns out the Rachofskys are selling their family home at 5911 Glendora Ave., the stunning white 5,800-square-foot palace of contemporary perfection where they raised their children (who obviously never drank grape juice).

The home hit MLS on Tuesday for $2,695,000. For that very fair price, you get four bedrooms, including a master up and down; five-and-a-half baths; an office/study that is so minimal you wonder if there are even pens in a holder; state-of-the-art lighting; clean-lined kitchen; sleek pool and deck; and lush, green landscaping on the almost half-acre of goodness.
Old timers, of course, refer to this area as “new” Preston Hollow. The home was built in 1997, designed by the one and only Lionel Morrison, who also built the home next door.
The house also has an incredible organic garden, which Cindy and Howard have been eating from for years. Oh, and if that back balcony looks familiar, you are right: It is very similar to a balcony over at 6645 Northaven Rd., Amy and Darryl Kozelsky’s home, which was on the market last year for $9 millionish. That one’s no longer on the market, but this one sure is!
I am very, very crazy about the his-and-hers master bath, which totally explains the longevity of the Rachofsky marriage. That upstairs master was added by the couple, by the way; the sunken tub is in the downstairs master. There is also a gated driveway into a courtyard and a three-car garage. This area also has a very well-organized private police patrol staffed by off-duty DPD, so you can feel totally secure with all those big windows.
Now, just where are the Rachofskys moving? I mean, how do you surpass the brilliance of Lionel Morrison? Dewar tells me they definitely plan to move into 8605 Preston Rd., their Richard Meier masterpiece that is pure art, from the pavement to the last blade of grass on the property line — and, of course, on every wall in between.
