Where to drink in Dallas right now: 5 best happy hours for January
The holidays have passed. We're all back in business. Family's gone home, and the good times are over. It's back to our jobs, back to our routine, back to the grind.
Now more than ever, we need happy hours.
Here are five new happy hour offerings in Dallas:
Cafe Madrid
Dallas' original tapas bar off Knox Street has an unbelievably extensive menu for its happy hour offering, with an array of snacks and drinks to match. There are more than a dozen tapas snacks, from Spanish potato omelet to blood sausage to meatballs in almond sauce, all priced at about $3. These are smaller than their regular tapas, so you can sample a broad selection of tastes. Sangria is $5. Wine is $5 per glass or $18 for a bottle. Cava-based cocktails are $5, and beer is $3. Monday-Friday, 5-7 pm. 214-528-1731.
Dallas Fish Market
Dining at this seafood restaurant in downtown Dallas is an upscale affair, which makes their happy hour deals seem more enticing by comparison. They host a regular happy hour beginning at 3 pm, when house wines and martinis are $5. But two nights a week, they do complimentary sushi. As in, for free. You get a 4-piece roll with each drink order. Happy hour, Monday-Friday, 3-7 pm. Sushi special, Wednesday and Friday, 5-7 pm. 214-744-3474.
Ellen's
Downtown Dallas restaurant has a different food-or-drink special nearly every night of the week. Mondays are half-price margaritas, in flavors such as blood orange. Tuesdays is half-priced margaritas and Mexican beers. Wednesday is half-priced wine and Champagne, both by the glass and bottle. Thursday, it's half-priced bar drinks, including all liquor spirits, beer, and wine. Friday is half-priced chicken-fried steak or chicken, and half-priced beer. 5 pm-closing. 469-206-3339.
Ruth's Chris Steak House
Swanky steakhouse has created a specific menu for happy hour, and everything on it is $9. This includes cocktails and snacks. We're talking burgers, salads, spicy shrimp, appetizers, a steak sandwich, chicken sandwich, and seared ahi tuna. During non-happy hour times, that same seared ahi is $19, so you're literally saving $10 by partaking of this happy hour. There are four cocktails: a classic cosmo, Manhattan, pomegranate martini, and a gin-basil smash; and $9 for a glass of house wine. Sunday-Friday, 4:30-7 pm. 214-922-7062.
Ten50 BBQ
Richardson barbecue joint has a brand new happy hour deal that's not worth driving there for, but if you're there anyway, it surely won't hurt. Prepare yourself: It's $1 off draft beers, well drinks, and house wine. They've updated their draft menu with locals such as Deep Ellum Brewing Co., Four Corners Brewing Co., and Rahr & Sons Brewing, plus national brands like Blue Moon, Coors Light, and Dos Equis, plus a rotator such as Oak Highlands Brewery Vanilla Porter. Monday-Friday, 3:30-6:30 pm. 855-783-1050.
