Food trucks roll into Denton for weekly lunch series at downtown square
Denton food truck fans can circle Wednesday on their calendars. The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is hosting "Mouthwatering Wednesdays," a new food truck lunchtime series at the Downtown Denton Transit Center (DDTC).
Mouthwatering Wednesdays take place from 11 am to 2 pm on the following days:
- January 29
- February 5
- February 12
- February 19
DCTA began dabbling in food truck events in 2013, with a monthly event called "Trucking Tuesdays." It proved to be so successful they decided to expand. They're working with Gabriel Kirkpatrick, who owns the Lean Machine food truck, to create a lunchtime dining destination for train passengers and Denton locals.
Kirkpatrick says the location is a particularly good community spot. "It's the downtown station, so you're literally a block from the hub of downtown Denton," he says.
"It's an area that people come for lunch anyway. And then DCTA has some new trains coming in; they've amped up the number of trains coming in and the frequency."
Mouthwatering Wednesdays feature three local food trucks, such as Lean Machine, Pickled Carrot and Shiitake Swerve, which rotate each week. DCTA and Kirkpatrick intend to announce future food truck participants via social media. If it goes well, they may expand it through the spring.
The event is good for customers who want to find food trucks at a predictable time and place. "Obviously, food trucks are mobile, but this gives us an opportunity to offer a bricks-and-mortar experience once a week," he says.
