T. Blanco's tackles Addison restaurant scene with tempting Tex-Mex fare

Opening day has arrived for T. Blanco's Mexican Cantina, a new Mexican restaurant in Addison, in what most people will remember as the Sambuca space, at 15207 Addison Rd. A spin-off of a similarly-named restaurant in Longview, T. Blanco's boasts more of a scratch gourmet kitchen than your normal Tex-Mex, with everything made in-house.
T. Blanco's is owned by Thomas White and his sons, Hunter White and Mason White, along with partner Carson Sample. Thomas says they're thrilled about opening in Addison.
"I was always passionate about food and creating exceptional atmosphere in my restaurants," he says. "T. Blanco's Mexican Cantina is the newest addition for the brand, the original Longview location opened in 2010."
A bit of a Renaissance man, White is a photographer and designer who did the restaurant interior as well as the photos that hang on the wall, images he took in his travels to Mexico.
The bar program is headed up by mixologist Ruben Chavez, whose margarita "will rival any in town," son Mason says. In addition to margaritas, they do a frozen rum and coke that has its fans. They're also proud of their fajitas, with meat that has "beautiful marbling," says Mason. How often do you hear about marbled meat in descriptions of fajitas?
Their steak is served with an avocado butter, one of the specials of their chef Jimmy Villarreal.
They're known for their fried avocado, an avocado stuffed with meat and jack cheese, then deep-fried, and served with a creamy jalapeño sauce.
They'll celebrate their Addison restaurant with an opening party on February 22, where they'll serve free margaritas along with a chance to win a Margarita Party for 10 friends. If that doesn't get 'em in the doors, nothing will.
