Food Network veteran whips up bakery-tearoom for Dallas cake lovers
A DFW cake baker who's logged appearances on Food Network baking shows is bringing her cakes to the people with a retail shop in Lewisville. Called The London Baker, it will open on March 17, at 2540 King Arthur Blvd. in the Castle Hills Village Shops.
The London Baker is from Elizabeth Rowe, a Cake Wars veteran and native of Essex, England, who opened her Fort Worth kitchen in 2016. She has become known for elaborately sculpted cakes featuring characters from Mary Poppins to Kermit the Frog and intricate designs such as iconic football stadiums and motorcycles.
Previously, those cakes could be ordered online or by phone from her Fort Worth kitchen; now they can also be ordered at the Castle Hills storefront.
But she'll also have a pastry case featuring cookies, brownies, English crumpets, and scones. There'll also be a seating area for English tea.
The bakery will be featured on another national cooking show that spotlights bakers as they create customized, over-the-top cakes for customers. Alas, Row is not allowed to divulge what the show will be. Such intrigue. But we can presume it'll probably be something like the Food Network and will probably have something to do with cakes. Maybe Ridiculous Cakes, a new series hosted by Alton Brown.
The new location will offer The London Baker’s special occasion cakes for weddings, birthdays, baby showers and more in flavors such as classic vanilla, red velvet, wedding cake, cookies & cream, and lemon.
There's a chocolate stout cake, described as a "spectacular boozy salted caramel crunch cake" baked with a chocolate and vanilla stout beer, a smooth salted caramel butter cream filling, and crushed pretzels decorated in a fudge chocolate frosting.
One of her most popular is the fresh strawberry cake baked with bits of fresh strawberry and a strawberry cream filling.
In a release, Rowe says that The Castle Hills Village Shops is an ideal location.
"It's a beautiful setting – we overlook Lake Avalon – which is perfect to showcase our cakes and enjoy traditional English high tea and cream tea," she says.
The London Baker opening will be part of a St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl from 4-7 pm with neighboring retailers such as TKO Libations and The Salty Cow.
Castle Hills Village Shops is a neighborhood dining and events destination whose other shops include PI.E 3.14 Everyday Eatery pizzeria, T.B.D. Kitchen taqueria, Kanzi Sushi & Hibachi, Z’s Wok Chinese restaurant, and Sophia's Kitchen, specializing in seasonal coffees, teas and pastries.
