Pappas doubles down on BBQ with new restaurant south of Dallas
Pappas Restaurants is bringing more barbecue to Dallas. The Houston restaurant company will open a location of its Pappas Bar-B-Q concept south of Dallas, at 230 W. Hwy 67, in Duncanville.
This is only the second location of Pappas Bar-B-Q in the Dallas area. The first is at 2231 W. Northwest Hwy., part of the Pappas restaurant constellation off I-35 in northwest Dallas that includes Pappas Bros. Steakhouse, Pappasito's Cantina, and Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen.
In Duncanville, it will open just short jog down the 67 frontage road from Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, which the company opened in 2004.
According to Christina Pappas, the company's marketing director, the new BBQ spot will open in early 2020.
"We still have quiet a bit of time before we open our doors," she says. "We hope to be open in the first few months of next year. At this point in time, construction is on schedule!"
Pappas Bar-B-Q was founded 40 years ago with the first location opening in downtown Houston. There are 19 locations total, with the other 18 all in the Houston area.
The menu features brisket, ham, sausage, rib, pulled pork, which you can get in meat places with choice of two sides from a larger-than-usual assortment that includes beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, macaroni salad, cucumber salad, potato salad, yams, and spicy rice.
They also have sandwiches, baked potatoes topped with meat, salads, rib platters, roasted half chicken, burgers, tamales, and breakfast tacos.
Duncanville is enjoying some buzz right now with recent openings such as Black & Bitter Coffee and Books, a hipster coffeehouse that opened in a building being refurbished by thoughtful developer Monte Anderson. Wherever Monte goes, things start happening.
Pappas has since launched a slightly more upscale barbecue spinoff called Delta Blues, the second location of which just opened in Plano. Pappas is all in on BBQ in DFW.
