There's a new kid on the avenue: Felix Culpa recently opened in the former Victor Tangos space on Henderson Avenue, and already it's causing a stir.
The "loungey" restaurant is from SBBC Hospitium, the team behind bars such as Truth & Alibi, The Tipsy Alchemist, and Punk Society. So in addition to a well-made craft cocktail, you can definitely expect a space that encourages you to stay a while.
What else can you expect? Here's a peek at the new eatery.
New American eats
Easily shared small plates are the idea here, from chicken and pineapple kabobs to lamb lollipops and roasted buffalo cauliflower. There are some showstoppers too, like the wheel of brie that's lightly baked and served with seasonal preserves, house-made pepper jam, apple slices, and crostini bread.
Just like Felix Culpa is a twist on tapas, so are its drinks a reinvention of the classics. The margarita gets a tropical upgrade with Patron Silver, Citronage mango, lime, and watermelon agua fresca, while the old fashioned shows its hometown pride with Knob Creek Rye, Giffard peach, butter pecan, and salted house bitters. Don't overlook the namesake cocktail, with its Grey Goose, Lillet Rose, lemon juice, raspberry, and prosecco.
Midcentury modern is the space's style, meaning sleek velvet chairs, groovy crystal chandeliers, and pop art pieces festooning the walls and bar. Even the setup encourages lingering, with a mix of traditional dining and lounge space.
Wednesdays and Thursdays have a little extra oomph, thanks to live music on the latter and a burlesque show on the former. You can also enjoy half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays, and reverse happy hour on Wednesdays from 9 pm-12 am. Regular happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday from 5-7 pm, and includes all menu items at half price, domestic beer for $4, house wine for $5, and well cocktails for $6.
Felix Culpa is located at 3001 N. Henderson Ave. and is open from 5-11 pm Monday-Wednesday and 5 pm-2 am Thursday-Saturday.
