Wings and Things
Boozy Bird restaurant brings wings, beer, and patio to Carrollton
A lowbrow concept called Boozy Bird has opened in Carrollton with wings, canned beer, cocktails, and games. It's located at 2661 Midway Rd., previously home to ChopShop Sports Garage, the mechanic-themed restaurant and bar from Rock Libations, who also own Boozy Bird. ChopShop closed in that space in May after nine years. Bye mechanic theme, hello wings.
The unfortunately titled Boozy features chicken wings, local canned beers, cocktails, billiard tables, arcade games, 20+ high-def TVs, and a dog-friendly patio with lawn games.
The chicken consists of bone-in wings and tenders — labeled on the menu Beavis & Butthead-style as "Boners and Breasts." The chicken is brined for 72 hours and "hand-breaded" (as opposed to machine-breaded, which is so automated and soulless).
As per usual with wings and tenders, there is a lengthy list of dry rubs and sauces such as boozy BBQ, Korean fried chicken, salt & vinegar, black truffle siracha, maple sugar, and spicy apricot glaze.
Chef Chris Conlon says in a statement that he's from Buffalo, New York, the birthplace of buffalo wings.
"Wings truly are my childhood comfort food, and that deep-rooted love and passion fueled the creation of Boozy Bird," he says.
Other categories on the menu include crispy mac n’ cheese, loaded fries, sandwiches, burgers, salads, and milkshakes.
Highlights:
- Chicks in a Blanket – Chicken apple sausage, honey mustard, and spicy ketchup wrapped in puff pastry
- Crazy Hot Asian – Salad with tenders, Sichuan pepper, green curry ranch, and pickle chips
- Crispy Mac & Queso Bites – Queso mac & cheese with bacon, green chilis, and scallions
- Shrooms – Mushrooms stuffed with pimento cheese, served with a chipotle ranch
- Boozy Bird Burger – 8-ounce patty topped with over-easy egg, spicy aioli, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and pickles
- Cordon Blue Sandwich – Chicken sandwich with black forest ham, Swiss cheese, and truffle aioli dressing
Prices are pretty cheap. Everything on the above list is $16, and they thoughtfully offer a half-order of fries or onion rings for $4 under the name "I'm Not That Hungry," with a description that says "because you know your chick wants some." Sexism or true fact?
The bar features what they call "the city’s largest selection of local canned beer" with more than 45 options, all $3.75. Cocktails include shareable fishbowl cocktails for $45, shots for $5, “boozy jammers” served in capri-style pouches, boozy cappuccinos, frozen flamingos, and more.
Boozy Bird also has more than 20 high-definition TVs, lawn games such as ping pong, beer pong, shuffleboard, and basketball, pool tables, arcade games, and a casual sports lounge open to guests of all ages. They keep late hours, from 11 am–2 am every day, although the kitchen closes at 11 pm.
