Casual Doughbird from savvy restaurateur opens in Dallas
A new restaurant from Fox Restaurant Concepts, the renowned hospitality group led by Sam Fox, is coming to town: Called Doughbird, it combines two popular food groups — pizza and rotisserie chicken — under one roof, and is opening a location at 5560 W. Lovers Ln. in Dallas' Inwood Village complex where its sibling restaurant Flower Child also resides.
According to a release, it'll open on September 6.
Doughbird was founded in 2017 in Phoenix, and currently has locations in Arizona and Tennessee; Dallas will be its fifth and its first in Texas. Fox Restaurant Concepts is beloved in Dallas. In a statement, founder Sam Fox acknowledges their Dallas connection, stating that they've been "humbled by the success of our restaurants in Dallas and have long considered the city home."
"We get to serve the community at Flower Child, North Italia, Culinary Dropout, and The Henry, and now we can share the delicious menu of Doughbird," Fox says.
Doughbird will serves lunch and dinner daily with what the release calls a diverse menu offering a fun spin on American classics. This is a slight shift from their previous positioning, which placed greater emphasis on the pizza-and-chicken theme. The rotisserie chicken seems to be not as big a deal.
To that end, they're touting signature dishes such as:
- Crispy Chicken Parmesan with marinara, aged provolone, mozzarella and black truffle orzo
- Salmon with sweet potato, crispy brussels sprouts and brown butter vinaigrette
- Chicken Avocado Salad with glazed bacon, gorgonzola, cherry tomato and ranch
- Steak Frites (trendy!) with prime skirt steak, café de Paris butter, and parmesan truffle fries
- Prime Rib Dip Sandwich with charred onion, creamy horseradish, fontina and au jus
Nothing on that list says "rotisserie chicken."
Nonetheless, pizza is still a big thing, and comes in two options: Detroit-style or gluten-free crust, topped with Bianco DiNapoli Tomato sauce. That's a pretty big commitment to gluten-free, and surely customer-friendly of them — but the reality is that gluten-free pizza should not exist, because pizza is MADE WITH FLOUR. But this is where we are now.
Signature pizzas include
- Aviator with pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon, crushed tomato sauce and mozzarella
- Copper Hat with prosciutto, goat cheese, Medjool date, salted pistachio, and arugula
- Roasted Tomato & Artichoke with blistered sweet peppers, red onion, mozzarella and garden herbs
The beverage menu features a vast selection, a good indicator that this will be a drinking place as well as an eating place. That includes wine — red, white, rosé, and prosecco — draft beer, and cocktails, both regular and zero-proof. The Lovers Lane Mule — awww, named for a street in Dallas — has vodka, lime, dried five spice, and ginger beer. Also frozens including a frozen Piña Colada and the Frozen Miami Vice, which is a combination of strawberry daiquiri and piña colada.
The restaurant is going into the former Bread Winners space where it will occupy a 5,258-square-foot space with a 1,306-square-foot patio for outdoor dining; inside will feature a refurbished parachute art piece that is special to the Dallas location.
