If at first you don't succeed
Cretia's gives it a whirl yet again, this time on Lovers Lane
Cretia's, an unusual bakery-cum-boutique concept from chef Cretia Drydale, has opened yet again, this time on Lovers Lane in the Park Cities.
True to form, it consists of two adjoining businesses: a bakery called Cretia's and a clothing store called Sweet Threads Boutique. It's located at 5627 Lovers Ln., just west of the Tollway, in what used to be the Lovers Lane Olive Oil store, itself a quirky concept.
"We opened here about a month and a half ago," said the manager on duty. "We're a boutique attached to the bakery. We have casual wear and jeans."
This is hardly Cretia's first time at the rodeo, but her approach at this location looks a lot more modest than her previous incarnations.
This is hardly Cretia's first time at the rodeo, but her approach at this location looks a lot more modest than her previous incarnations. She's had the original Cretia's in Duncanville with its bakery and tea room for 26-plus years.
She opened a spin-off in 2004 at 4438 McKinney Ave. (in the space currently occupied by Sushi on McKinney, which moved there from its space next door, which became a Chipotle). That Cretia's closed in 2008.
In 2009, Cretia tried again, this time at 4900 McKinney Ave., at the corner of Monticello Avenue, which is now the home of Acme F&B. It closed in 2011.
"The restaurant wasn't allowed to stay open past 11 pm, and she wanted to be open later," the store manager said. "Also, it was a sports bar slash bakery slash boutique. We've been working with this concept, and it has always worked."
There's a Cretia's in Bishop Arts, which has been there a year; for three years prior to that, it was inside Nodding Dog Coffee in Bishop Arts, but that partnership collapsed in 2009.
The Lovers branch is just a bakery and boutique, and everything closes down at 7 pm.
