Famed Israeli pita street food concept Miznon opens in The Colony
A globally renowned Mediterranean concept is coming to The Colony: Miznon, a fast-casual concept founded by an Israeli celebrity chef is opening at 5808 Windhaven Pkwy. #100, within The Shacks Dining & Dog Park, where it will share its unique take on the pita and other Mediterranean delights.
According to a release, it'll open on November 16.
It's going into a newly reconstructed 900-square-foot space that was once Ten Ramen, and will now feature a grab-and-go style dining space with outdoor seating on the patio. An open kitchen allows diners to watch their food being prepared, bringing authentic Mediterranean flavors to life with a fresh take on street food.
Founded in Tel Aviv in 2011 by celebrity chef Eyal Shani, Miznon is a sophisticated concept with a menu centered around the pita, crafted by Jerusalem’s own world-famous Angel Bakeries. It has since expanded to Paris, Vienna, Melbourne, and Singapore, coming to the U.S. in 2018 when a location opened in Chelsea Market, New York.
At Miznon, plates are set aside. Dishes are served in brown paper bags and cardboard. The decor is also magical with olive-colored walls decorated with chalk drawings showcasing colorful handwritten phrases in Hebrew and English.
Shani is also credited with spearheading the idea of a whole roasted cauliflower, which has become a staple not only at Miznon but at many other restaurants.
Other dishes include
- Hummus Plate with chickpeas, tomato seeds, olive oil, spicy green peppers for $18
- Folded Cheeseburger: ground beef, cheddar, aioli, sour cream, tomato, pickles, for $16
- Lavan: cauliflower, tahini, tomato salsa, spicy green peppers and scallions for $15
An item exclusive to Miznon Dallas is the Bone-in Pita with lamb spare rib stew glazed with sweet grapes, tahini, chili, onion and pickles for $21.
Prices are low, starting at $15, but the food quality is high and the dishes are creative.
Chef Eyal Shani has been in the food scene for over 30 years and is considered one of the leading figures in the Mediterranean culinary scene; he stars in the TV series ‘Food for Thought’ and serves as a judge on Israel’s ‘Master Chef’.
“I became a huge fan of Miznon after visiting the Tel Aviv location years ago, and being a Dallas native,” says Miznon Dallas owner Jude Akpunku. “The Colony is a booming city, and Miznon is the unique culinary concept that’s missing from the local food scene. The community will soon discover what makes Miznon so special.”
The Colony is the second location in DFW: The first opened in Deep Ellum in April 2024, but it's still one of.only of seven restaurants in the U.S., with more than 15 restaurants worldwide.
"All the way from Tel Aviv to The Colony, we’re bringing a one-of-a-kind experience that locals will love, bringing people together over authentic Mediterranean street food,” Shani says.
