Magical Morning
Dallas young professionals get into character for fundraising breakfast
On June 25, kids from all over the community can meet beautiful princesses, mighty warriors, and spirited sports mascots at the fourth annual Character Breakfast benefiting Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. The event is hosted by young philanthropists who eschew cocktail dresses and suits in favor of capes and tights — superhero tights — to make a difference in kids’ lives.
“What makes Character Breakfast unique is that the event is totally focused on the children,” says Louanne Mason, whose daughter Amelie is a patient at Texas Scottish Rite. They attended the event last year to celebrate Amelie’s 6th birthday.
“The event is really about the kids having a wonderful time with their favorite characters.”
After a scrumptious pancake breakfast, children come face-to-face with more than 60 colorful characters — Elsa and Anna, Iron Man, Batman, Spiderman, and many more — during a special meet-and-greet for photos and autographs. Kids are encouraged to dress up and receive a special autograph book as a keepsake of their magical morning. Face painting and a silent auction, featuring goodies for both kids and adults, add to the excitement.
The fun is for a great cause: Proceeds from this event support Texas Scottish Rite Hospital’s mission of treating, researching, and pioneering pediatric orthopedic care. It is the signature philanthropic event of the hospital’s Crayon Club, a group of young professionals dedicated to improving lives of children through volunteerism, education, and philanthropy.
“Not only is this a fun event for families and patients, but it’s a great way for young professionals to get involved and give back,” says Amy Van Valkenburg, a Crayon Club committee member and lead coordinator for this year’s event. “Last year, I brought a group of friends to help out, and they had so much fun that they immediately marked their calendar for this year’s event.”
Tickets to this amazing occasion sell out quickly, so be sure to get yours early.
