Dallas' lovely St. Valentine's Day Luncheon tugs heartstrings to raise $600,000

The 411: The 39th edition of this cherished Dallas luncheon might have been its loveliest yet. For one, it settled back into its namesake Valentine's-week date after a couple years of Covid-related calendar complications. It also raised a heart-pounding $600,000.
Themed "Let Love Shine," the annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society benefit was co-chaired by Katy Bock and Sunie Solomon, with honorary chairs Claire and Dwight Emanuelson. Theywere joined by luncheon co-founders Rusty Duvall and Janet Evans, advisory chairs Nancy Gopez, Maggie Kipp, and Melinda Knowles, and more than 560 attendees dressed in their best Valentine’s Day-inspired hues of pink, purple, and red.
After a champagne reception, guests filed into the McDermott Concert Hall for an awards presentation and fashion show, emceed by Fox 4 Good Day anchor Hanna Battah. After thank-you's from the co-chairs, LLS Red River executive director Leah Swanson announced that the organization has been able to provide $9.5 million in financial assistance to help patients focus on fighting cancer. Additionally, more 2,350 patients and caregivers in North Texas received support and educational services.
At the highly anticipated awards presentation, Melody and Rick Rogers received the Lynda Adleta Heart of Gold Award; Allie Beth Allman was recognized with the ICON award; the late George Meza was honored with the Memorial Hero Award, presented by Robyn and Don Conlon, accepted by his beloved wife Teresa; and the Spirit of Tom Landry Character Award was presented by Tom Landry, Jr. to 9-year-old leukemia survivor Max Hinojosa.
The Jan Strimple-produced fashion show featured models wearing this season’s fashions from Highland Park Village retailers. One highlight was seeing fun fashions from LoveShack Fancy modeled by host committee members’ children.
After the fashion show, attendees filled the Meyerson lobby again for a seated luncheon of Thai chicken salad with a sweet soy chili glaze and dessert of flourless chocolate cake or a fresh fruit tart.
Some patrons then headed to Trina Turk in Highland Park Village to enjoy light bites, champagne, and shopping with partial proceeds going back to LLS.
