Dallas leagues lets locals get a kick out of kickball

Remember how much fun it was to escape from class and go outside to play kickball? It can be again. The perfect way to put a new spin on your life this summer is to join a kickball team through area leagues, including those at the Dallas Sports and Social Club.
“Kickball is one of our most social sports,” said Lauren Digati, the DSSC marketing and events manager. “It’s particularly popular with company teams because anyone can play, and it provides a way for young professionals to be physically active while having fun getting to know their coworkers outside of the office."
The DSSC is the area's largest provider of recreational sports leagues, premier social events and local social networking. It offers a wide variety of fun sports from kickball and sand volleyball to softball and flag football.
Those looking to recreate the fun of schoolyard kickball will find that today’s teams are largely co-ed. Each 15-member team has five women and five men on the field at all times.
Kickball is played year round in Dallas, where more than 100 teams compete annually. Teams can join as a group, but individuals can sign up too. At DSSC it costs $75 for an individual and $625 for a team per season.
DCCS games are played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Glencoe, Tietze, Norbuck, Fair Oaks and Samuell Grand parks. The season lasts for seven games, plus a single-elimination playoff. For the fee, players also get to enjoy food and drink specials after the games at sponsoring bars.
Those interested should stop by and check out a game. Home teams wear dark shirts; visiting team wear white shirts - a big improvement over middle school gym uniforms.
