Get in the swim of things: Vegas-style pool lounge gets summertime just right in Galveston
Looking to cool off on the Island? Look no further than the coolest spot in Galveston — the H2O Pool + Bar at the San Luis Resort, Spa & Conference Center.
Surrounding the oversized pool in front of the 16-story posh hotel, the popular outdoor hangout resembles the luxurious poolside bars of Las Vegas. Think water, comfort and delicious drinks served by an attentive waitstaff.
Picture yourself at a swim-up bar with gorgeous views of the Gulf of Mexico. Nearby is a quiet grotto hot tub. Around the pool there are comfy chaises and day beds for lounging — perfect for sipping made-to-order mojitos or noshing on delectable bites brought to you straight from the kitchen and grill.
“The H2O mojito bar is extremely popular with guests. They can choose their favorite rum that we’ll muddle with fresh fruit, which makes for a very refreshing afternoon cocktail,” says Assistant Food and Beverage Director Simon Randolph, who oversees H2O.
“We also have great burgers and fish tacos, wonderful fare for around the pool,” adds resort Executive Chef Brian Robertson.
And while the pool itself is reserved for hotel guests, the H2O lounge and grill is open to all, making it a great place for a cocktail with friends or a dramatic spot for that business luncheon. Stop by on summer weekends for complimentary s’mores around the fire pit.

The hotel throws monthly theme parties that open to the public as well.
“We’ve done a Havana Nights party with a cigar roller on site and a western-themed party for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kick-off,” says Randolph. “Later this summer, we're having a New Moon party with a glow-in-the-dark face painter for the kids. It's all very family friendly.”
And did we mention the cabanas?
San Luis guests can choose from eight fabulous outdoor suites equipped with overstuffed chairs, a flat screen television, ceiling fans to stir the Gulf breeze, and a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water and fresh fruit. Each cabana accommodates six guests. Kids can enjoy cartoons on the TV while couples work on a complimentary bottle of champagne as well as expedited food and bottle service.
If you'd like a cabana break, Randolph suggests booking along with your hotel reservations. Otherwise, just grab a plush chair at H2O and have your food and drinks in style. Pool attendants even will bring out complimentary frozen grapes and offer to clean your sunglasses. This is how summertime is meant to be spent.
But do keep in mind that H2O is a year-round destination, with warm fires and soft blankets for those nights when the temperature drops.
Summer, spring, winter or fall . . . your restive Galveston retreat is only just a short drive away.
