Dallas is once again expanding its nontraditional transportation options. Zipcar, the car-sharing member-based alternative to rental cars, has pulled into Love Field airport.
Two Zipcars, a Ford Focus and a Nissan Sentra, are available for members' use by the hour or by the day. Zipcar memberships start at $50 a year, and rental fees range from $9 per hour to $69 per day. The cost includes gas, insurance and 180 miles worth of travel.
Drivers gain access to Zipcars by swiping their membership card across the dashboard — no keys required. Zipcars are also available at University of Texas at Dallas and SMU, and there are plans to bring the car-sharing business model downtown this summer.
Zipcar is in hundreds of cities across the globe. Love Field marks the 35th airport to offer the innovative car-sharing program.
