Acclaimed ice cream shop closes location in Dallas' Deep Ellum
An acclaimed ice cream chain has closed a shop in Dallas: Jeni's Ice Cream, the Columbus, Ohio-based chain founded by Jeni Britton, has closed its inaugural location in DFW. The shop was in Deep Ellum, at 2649 Main St., where it opened early 2021.
A representative from the company said that the location closed at the end of March, and that it had been doing well but that there were "issues with the rent."
The landlord at the space is Asana Partners, who did not respond to a request for comment.
Jeni's is a nationally acclaimed brand available by retail at Whole Foods Market and Central Market stores. They began seriously expanding in 2020, opening scoop shops in Nashville, Chicago, Atlanta, Charleston, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Washington DC, Charlotte, Austin, and Houston.
The shops offer about two dozen flavors such as Milkiest Chocolate, Wildberry Lavender, Brown Butter Almond Brittle, and Coffee With Cream and Sugar, made with Intelligentsia coffee.
They also feature creative vegan flavors and seasonal specials like Boozy Eggnog, Cognac with Gingerbread, and White Chocolate Peppermint.
The Deep Ellum location was a bit off the street in a courtyard with patio seating in front, adjacent to Merit Coffee and the recently-opened Miznon.
The closure leaves three Jeni's Ice Cream Shops in the Dallas area, which the representative said are all doing splendidly: Addison which opened in 2021; Lower Greenville which opened in 2022; and the most recently addition, Victory Park which opened in 2023.
