See how Southern Methodist University stacks up on new ranking of best colleges
Here's some uplifting back-to-school news for you: Southern Methodist University is still one of the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2017 edition of Best Colleges.
The rankings are determined by 15 criteria ranging from financial resources to graduation rates, factors carefully selected to paint an accurate picture for incoming students.
In the national university rankings, which includes both public and private schools, SMU is tied at No. 56 with the University of Texas at Austin, University of Georgia in Athens, and George Washington University in D.C. In Texas, Houston's Rice University places the highest, at No. 15.
UT comes in at No. 18 on the public schools list, and is the highest-ranking in Texas. Next is Texas A&M University, at No. 27, and UT Dallas, at No. 74.
The report also analyzed the best undergraduate business and engineering programs across the nation, where UT and SMU shine once again. The former ranks sixth for business and 11th for engineering; SMU is 48th for business and 91st for engineering.
