Dallas devotees of renowned hair stylist Charlie Price are celebrating for not one but two reasons.
His popular Charlie + Co. salon has just moved across the street from its original Design District location into a bigger, brighter, and bolder space, at 1645 N. Stemmons Frwy., Ste. C. There, 15 stylists are offering cuts and color treatments starting at $65.
And on June 8, Price's old space will reopen as a luxury blowout bar. Known as Co. Bar by Charlie, the space is set to have eight stylists that will blow away clients with a killer 'do for date night, sleek style for a big meeting, or anytime-tresses that impress.
A single blowout will cost $55, and packages of three and five styles are also avaliable for $150 and $250, respectively. The luxury blowout experience can be enjoyed at home, too, with house calls starting at $125.
"The best way for someone to prepare their hair for a Co. Bar blowout is to do nothing to it," Price says. "We will be exclusively using a amazing range of product from Australian brand EVO to cleanse, condition and prep the hair for the look the guest wants."
Blowout styles will be customized to each client. There will be no set menu of styles to choose from, he says.
"Consultation is key to the relationship between stylist and guest," Price says. "Having a book of 'looks' does not exceed expectations because no one has the same hair type and texture. So offering a book only hurts. Instead, let's browse inspiration such as images on Pinterest and Instagram so we can then curate a look that is yours."
Price is a busy man these days. The stylist has sent 'dos down the runway at Chanel fashion shows; he's cut, colored, and coifed the locks of A-list celebrities; and he's opened a successful sister salon in Fort Worth.
Appointments with him are coveted — a fact that this writer can vouch for personally. I found Price on social media in 2012 via his wildy popular @HairByCharlie Instagram handle. I was a television anchor in West Texas who had just gotten the worst haircut of my life. Price worked with me on the perfect style while it grew back out (and was honest in his assessment that I should never again try super short hair and bangs).
His new blowdry bar will not be strictly for those in need of a good wash and style. Price, who is passionate about styling education and mentorship, envisions this as an incubator for those who aspire to cut and color hair professionally.
Budding young stylists will start at Co. Bar by Charlie learning all of Price's tips and tricks and then eventually will migrate over to Charlie + Co. The final year of training will include traveling alongside Price as his personal assistant.
