Where There's Smoke
Chef-about-town Kenny Bowers will start smoking at Shops at Legacy in December
Ubiquitous chef Kenny Bowers, owner of Kenny’s Wood-Fired Grill, Kenny’s Burger Joint and Kenny’s Italian Kitchen, is expanding into another cuisine category: barbecue. Will his name be on the sign? You bet.
Along with business partners Mike Hutchinson and Bob Stegall, Bowers is opening the not-surprisingly named Kenny’s Smoke House at the Shops at Legacy in December. The 2,700-square-foot restaurant will go into the old Rice Boxx space, and it will churn out a variety of smoked meats, including brisket and pork.
Barbecue is hot-hotter-hottest right now, but Bowers claims (well, his press release does) that the Kenny’s Smoke House concept has been “more than 20 years in the making.” Oh sure, easy to say that now, Kenny. The release also says that he’s visited many of the nation’s top destinations for grilling, smoking and barbecuing meats to evaluate techniques and ingredients. His wood of choice is hickory. His menu will feature pulled pork, brisket, beef and pork ribs, and smoked sausage from Southside Market in Elgin, Texas.
Rice Boxx closed about a month ago, according to a spokesperson for the Shops at Legacy, but the Rice Boxx in Frisco is still open.
