California rice bowls make their Texas debut in Dallas' Oak Cliff
A bowl concept from California is making its Texas debut in Dallas: Called WaBa Grill, it specializes in protein rice bowls, and will open its first location in Oak Cliff, at 2222 Fort Worth Ave. #120, at the intersection of Hampton Road.
According to a release, it'll open in the spring.
The concept is coming to Dallas via long-time WaBa Grill franchisee Hilario Raygoza, who operates five locations in southern California.
“Guests have enjoyed WaBa Grill in several western states for nearly two decades, and we’re looking forward to growing the brand legacy and becoming the go-to option for better-for-you food throughout Texas,” Raygoza says.
WaBa Grill was founded in 2006 in California, with a goal of making healthy food with quality ingredients accessible to everyone. The chain has nearly 200 locations across California, Arizona, and Nevada, with plans for more locations in 2024
The menu consists of bowls, plates, tacos, and salads.
A basic bowl has white rice with steamed broccoli, cabbage, and carrots. You can do a veggie bowl or else top it with choice of a protein from a list that includes chicken, spicy chicken, rib-eye steak, salmon, shrimp, tofu, and Plantspired plant-based steak.
Bowls are $7 to $13. You can also get a "plate" version for $13 to $15 that comes with a side salad.
Tacos use a corn-flour-blend tortilla with the same choice of proteins, plus slaw, sesame dressing, and boom boom sauce. Single tacos range from $2.50 to $3.50.
There are also dumplings filled with pork, 20 for $12.50, plus miso soup, wontons, and edamame kimchi.
“There’s so much opportunity in Texas, and we’re excited to enter this proud and iconic state with healthy and nutritious menu options for anyone on the go,” president and CEO Andrew Kim says in the release.
