Dallas burger chain pulls out of long-occupied location in Preston Center
Sorry Park Cities, but your days of easy access to cheese fries have come to a tragic end: The Snuffer's in Preston Center has closed.
Located at 8411 Preston Rd., the restaurant closed in October, a representative from the company confirmed.
There is now a large for-lease sign in the window, and the location has been removed from the restaurant's website. That leaves 11 locations for the chain, including one that just opened in Plano in 2017.
The Snuffer's Restaurant & Bar brand has been a Dallas institution since 1978, serving its signature burgers and loaded cheddar fries. The chain was purchased in 2013 by Firebird Restaurant Group, parent of El Fenix, Meso Maya, La Ventana, and Tortaco.
Since Firebird's purchase, locations have opened in Mesquite, Colleyville, Red Oak, and Greenville.
Firebird also acquired Village Burger Bar, a mini-chain known for burgers, salads, and craft beer, in 2017.
A familiar stop for a not-too-expensive lunch or dinner, Snuffer's had been in Preston Center for more than a decade, a relative longtimer, serving the usual burgers, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches, and fried items.
One unique thing about the location is that, while it had a narrow footprint, it was two-story. As of late, its Yelp reviews were, how do you say, tepid.
Old-timers might remember that it was once upon a time home to a Phil Romano restaurant called Lobster Ranch, where he did the at-the-time crazy thing of chicken-frying lobster chunks. As things occasionally do with Phil Romano, it ended up in the middle of a lawsuit.
While Snuffer's has its loyalists, its fortunes can't have been helped by the fact that a newer-fresher Hopdoddy Burger opened in the same center in 2015.
