Great Greek restaurant breaks into Dallas with skewers and hummus
A new Greek concept comes to Dallas-Fort Worth bearing skewers, hummus, and dolmas. Called The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill, it'll open its first location in Texas in The Grandscapes, The Colony by Nebraska Furniture Mart.
The restaurant only recently broke ground at 3750 Plano Pkwy., and will open in January 2019.
The Great Greek is from the Las Vegas area; it was founded in Henderson, Nevada in 2011. In 2016, it was acquired by a franchise operation with the intent to grow in the U.S. and beyond. In addition to Texas, other locations in the works are in Colorado and Florida.
It's a fast-casual concept featuring authentic Greek recipes, whether it’s a savory skewer from the grill, a crisp refreshing salad or wrap, a tender gyro, or a flaky baklava dessert.
Entrees include souvlaki, aka skewers, of lamb, chicken, steak, and shrimp over rice. You can get shaved gyro meat with choice of rice pilaf, fries, or "feta fries," which are exactly as they sound: fries topped with feta cheese.
Two vegetarian entrees include a falafel plate and a mezze platter with grape leaves, falafel, hummus, and spanikopita.
Derrick Udy, who is the franchise owner for the Dallas area, calls this "an exciting new era of fresh, delicious, relaxed dining that we're certain everyone will love."
Jim Butler, president at United Franchise Group touts the Great Greek's "zesty, savory flavor profile" and says "there's a lot to look forward to in The Colony."
