What: Unlikely Heroes 5th Annual Recognizing Heroes Charity Benefit

Where: Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas

The 411: Unlikely Heroes hosted the annual event, this year chaired by Kenyon and Katie Coleman, that furthers its mission to rescue and restore child victims of slavery worldwide. The star-studded evening included a VIP cocktail reception, silent auction, and live musical performances by Grammy-nominated artist Vanessa Carlton; Cassadee Pope (winner of The Voice, Season 3); and Johnny Manuel (America’s Got Talent, Season 12 alum).

Critically acclaimed comedian Anjelah Johnson (MADtv) and TV personality and entrepreneur Savannah Chrisley (Chrisley Knows Best) kicked off the night with a fun rendition of “finish that tune” with singer-songwriter Shane Stevens. Guests were randomly selected to complete the song lyrics for chances to win exclusive prizes.

But it wasn't all just fun and games. Unlikely Heroes founder and CEO Erica Greve recognized the first recipient of their 2017 Hero Awards, Francia Raisa, for her tireless work in advancing global human rights and her outstanding efforts to stop human trafficking. Then keynote speaker, Dallas native and 13 Reasons Why producer Mandy Teefey spoke to the group about the importance of the work they do. Additional award recipients included Byron Fassett (Dallas Police Sergeant), Toni McKinley (director of therapy, The Refuge DMST), and Shamere McKenzie (CEO of Sun Gate Foundation).

In total, the foundation raised $600,000 at the event to open the first licensed home for trafficked boys in Tijuana, Mexico.
