Jordan Spieth picks up Preston Hollow pad perfect for a pro golfer

    Candy Evans
    Jan 18, 2016 | 12:05 pm

You could say it's an occurrence even more treasured than a hole-in-one. Pro golfer Hunter Mahan's gargantuan Preston Hollow home has been on the market for a few years, and recently golf superstar Jordan Spieth inked a deal to make it his. After hearing the description, though — which includes such bonuses as a golf-simulator room, 12-car underground garage, and full mural of the Augusta National clubhouse — it's no wonder Spieth wanted to own this luxurious, gated home.

Rumor has it that Spieth paid less than the $7,995,000 asking sum, which listing agent Erin Mathews of Allie Beth Allman brought down from the previously listed $8,495,000 (and original $9,500,000).

You enter 10719 Bridge Hollow Ct. through a stone-crested, fresh-air loggia that overlooks a courtyard with fountain. To the immediate left is a guest casita that is part of the house, but it could serve as an independent residence for guests, because the main home can be completely locked while this is accessed.

Inside there is a grand foyer, where a magnificent staircase to the basement and the second floor waits at the end. To the left, also overlooking the courtyard with fountain, is the regal dining room with bocce ball-inspired light fixtures. However, before you enter the dining room, you must admire the glass wine cellar: The wall is a piece of translucent photographic art glass by Weil Studios.

And, oh, the kitchen, where a sleek zinc range hood and Walker Zanger tile backsplash play off the reclaimed beams and marble farmhouse sink with pedal faucets. Off the kitchen is a casual family room, then a more formal family room sporting steel girders that were painted and left exposed in this room.

Electric retractable screens can make a second room out of the vast patio, which wraps the family room, but once outside it's not even the pool that steals the show. Previous owners Mahan and his wife, Kandi, built a vented, AC-equipped room just for grilling, and we predict Spieth is going to love it.

Lest you think that might be a wasteful use of AC, know that this 16,655-square-foot home is all geothermal with serious insulation, resulting in extremely low utility bills.

Of the five bedrooms, the master obviously is the largest and most ornate. You enter to a sitting room that easily could be mistaken for a media room, then see the elongated linear glass fireplace. The master overlooks the pool and spa area with special access.

The master bath is one of the best in Dallas, with that vessel bath tub surrounded by translucent art panels, this one of cherry blossoms. The master closet has a unique sitting area with marble counter, mirror, sink, and fridge — a makeup bar of sorts — and then a uniquely designed step-up to maximize space for shoes and lingerie drawer storage.

Spieth closed on the house on December 14, keeping the sports palace firmly in the golf family.

Inwood Design Center in Dallas Design District due for major makeover

    Inwood Design Center

A center in Dallas' Design District is about to get a major makeover: M2G Ventures, a DFW real estate investment and development company, is repositioning the former Inwood Design Center, a 14-building 740,000-square-foot complex at 1110 Inwood Rd. into a two-pronged design complex with restaurants and retail.

According to a release, the rebranding will introduce two distinct identities which will operate "independently but harmoniously."

    • Inwood Design District, nickname IDD, will be for showroom and industrial use
    • Ace on Inwood, AKA Ace, will be for retail and restaurant

"IDD" comprises 630,000 square feet, with spaces ranging from 2,500- to 40,000-square-foot floorplates for showroom and light industrial use, with up to 24-foot clear heights.

Ace on Inwood will be a 109,233-square-foot retail building with spaces ranging from 1,193 to 6,000 square feet, for restaurants, retail, services, wellness and boutique concepts, with a focus on home furnishing uses to complement the existing base in the area. Patio space and endcaps will provide further opportunity for placemaking and activation.

Construction is about to begin with completion targeted for the end of 2025.

Project enhancements will include upgraded façades and storefronts, branding and signage, enhanced parking, and layered landscaping. Art strewn in unexpected places will include colorful visual moments, 3D illusions, or interactive installations, serving as visual landmarks and encouraging walkability and discovery.

In a statement, M2G Ventures co-founder Jessica Miller Essl calls it "one of the most dynamic projects we have been a part of."

“This modern evolution takes the property from industrial to a premier mixed-use campus at a location that bridges the Design District and Brookhollow submarkets,” Essl says. "We anticipate bringing both districts into their new lives. By creating two distinct projects under one collective vision, our team can create two best-in-market projects in their respective peer sets."

M2G has done similar projects in the past 10 years including the Foundry District in Fort Worth, a creative repositioning of a warehouse district into showrooms, retail, food and beverage, and creative office; and Proto Park in Dallas, a mid-century warehouse transformed into an industrial destination; M2G has since exited both projects.

The design team for the project includes Ibañez Shaw Architecture as architect, RSM Design for environmental graphics, Paper Kites Studio for landscape architecture, Katie Murray for art curation, Ramble Creative for branding, and SHOP Companies’ Jake Sherrington and Victoria Pappas for lleasing the retail component of Ace on Inwood.
