Perot Museum and more Dallas businesses dominate Texas Accessibility Awards
Every year since 2010, the Texas Governor's Committee on People With Disabilities has given out Accessibility Awards to businesses that go above and beyond to meet the needs of the disabled.
Only three businesses were given that award for 2013, and they all came from the Dallas area. Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Children's Medical Center of Dallas and Irving Convention Center were all cited for their commitment toward making the experiences of disabled people as easy as possible.
For the Perot Museum, that includes having ramps with gentle slopes and elevators and escalators that exceed legal limits in size. At Children's Medical Center, routes inside the building, in the parking lot and between the two are notably free of obstacles. Irving Convention Center was lauded for constantly monitoring the building for any areas that might cause problems for a disabled person.
All in all, the Dallas-Fort Worth area appears to be a leader in accessibility excellence, as at least one area business has received the award every year it has been given out.
